Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool night shift role requiring trauma/surgical experience and AL or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
- Position is based in a hospital environment with assignments across multiple Med/Surg units including trauma surgical, neuroscience, oncology, clinical decision, orthopedics, and urology
- Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit and shift
- Specialized units serve surgical, vascular, neuroscience, ortho, oncology, urology, and general Med/Surg populations
- Night shifts are 12 hours, 7:00 pm to 7:00 am on a 4-week scheduling cycle
- Weekend shifts required every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required to any like units or patient areas as needed
- Uses Cerner EMR (preferred), Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Home unit assigned on first day of orientation
- Daily duties may include wound and chest tube care, drain management, blood draws, medication administration, and tele interpretation
- Must provide care to a variety of patient populations including post-op, neuro, oncology, ortho, and urology as assigned
- Support staff on each unit includes CNAs, HUC/Receptionist, Charge RN, Phlebotomy, IV/VAT teams, and hospitalists
- Required to interpret and document telemetry strip readings every four hours
- Travelers receive 24 hours of classroom and 24 hours of unit orientation if new or returning after more than one year
- One major and one minor holiday coverage expected per policy; blackout dates apply for time off
- Scrub color is any color by personal preference
- Parking provided in designated parking deck levels 2-4 only
- First-time travelers are welcome if all experience requirements are met
- Staff must be separated from prior employment at the facility for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler
Requirements
- Active AL or compact RN license required at start
- Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg RN experience, with at least 1 year trauma/surgical experience
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR systems required
- Ability to interpret and confirm telemetry strip readings every four hours
- IV start, central line access, wound care, chest tube management, and medication administration skills required
- Experience with trach care, PEG/NGT care, ostomy, drains, foley, and restraint use
- Chemo administration experience highly preferred for oncology assignments (must be certified if administering)
- Physical ability to manage high-acuity surgical, neuro, orthopedic, oncology, and general Med/Surg cases
- No candidates living within a 60 mile radius of the facility will be considered
