Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU/Stepdown position requiring ICU skill set and advanced cardiac care capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Work in a hospital-based Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Stepdown setting
- Unit consists of 11 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4
- Patient population includes post-op vascular cases, hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias, stroke, sepsis, renal, stable acute MI, unstable angina, and post-cardiac catheterization
- 12-hour night shifts with rotating weekends and holiday coverage required
- Floating to Med-Surg Telemetry, ICU, and Emergency Department may be required
- Utilizes Epic EMR for charting
- Requires titration of drips including insulin, Cardizem, heparin, amiodarone, and low-dose dopamine
- Specialized procedures and equipment include telemetry, bipap, cpap, mechanical ventilation, high flow O2, and post-cardiac cath care
- Monitor Tech assistance available 24/7; RNs are responsible for reading telemetry strips
- RNs assist with general care and unit clerk duties as needed alongside PCTs
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor resources are available for support
- First day general hospital orientation, full day nursing orientation, computer training, and two 12-hour orientation shifts with a preceptor provided
- Solid navy scrubs required with closed-toed shoes; specific guidelines for undershirts and outerwear apply
- Pass/fail EKG testing may be required as part of the onboarding process
- No local travelers allowed; must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Returning travelers must have a two-year break if previously employed in any WVU Medicine location, and may not exceed one year cumulative work within WVU as a traveler
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required
- Current AHA certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Minimum 1-2 years critical care experience required, including prior travel experience
- ICU skill set required, including experience with bipap, cpap, mechanical ventilation, critical drips, and post-cardiac cath care
- Arterial line, post fem-pop, post endarterectomy, ECAR, and TVAR experience preferred
- Ability to float to ICU, Stepdown, Med-Surg Telemetry, and Emergency Department as needed
