Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring at least 2 years of PCU or relevant acute care experience and both ACLS and BLS certifications.

Responsibilities

• Position is on a 32-bed mixed PCU and MedSurg unit focused on cardio-pulmonary care in a hospital setting
• Patient population includes cardiac, pulmonary, trach-to-vent, neurodegenerative, trauma, and complex medical cases such as CHF, COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, flu, TB, and COVID-19
• PCU nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4; MedSurg is 1:5-6, with some mixed assignments of 4-5 patients
• Night shift (3x12-hour shifts) from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Regular weekend coverage is required, including possible consecutive weekends based on operational needs
• Travelers may be expected to float to MedSurg, PCU, ICU, or affiliated hospitals as operationally needed
• Travelers may need to assume charge nurse responsibilities and precept or be shadowed by students as part of a teaching hospital environment
• Cerner EMR is used, and experience with this system is required
• Will provide care for a wide spectrum of cardio-pulmonary and high-acuity patients, including those on ventilator support
• Charge nurse duties and precepting responsibilities may be required with provided training and support
• All travelers are required to float within hospital or to affiliate campuses as needed
• Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays during assignment
• Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) may be auto-approved
• Travelers must be open to being shadowed by nursing students
• Candidates must be comfortable with the fast-paced and variable nature of a teaching hospital environment

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license at the time of consideration
• Current ACLS and BLS certifications from AHA or RQI
• Graduation from a nursing program accredited by ACEN or CCNE
• Minimum 18 months to 2 years of acute care experience, preferably in PCU, MedSurg, or ICU settings
• Experience with telemetry and complex cardio-pulmonary patients required
• COVID-19 vaccination is required unless a medical or religious exemption is provided
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position
• Local candidates are not accepted for this PCU role
• Must not be a former permanent or PRN employee within the past 12 months
