Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg contract with trauma experience preferred and weekend flexibility required.
Responsibilities
- Work in a Med/Surg unit at a teaching hospital environment
- Typical patient cases include gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, stab wounds, motor vehicle collisions, falls, orthopedic injuries, ostomies, hernia repairs, skin flaps, significant wounds, and surgical drains
- Staffing ratios are typically 1:5-6
- Night shifts, 3x12 hours from 19:00 to 7:30
- Must be flexible to work 50% of weekends per contract based on unit need
- Floating required within hospital or to an affiliate hospital, may float between Med-Surg, PCU, and ICU with provided resources
- Cerner EMR is used; prior experience required or expected upon assignment
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned with training provided if needed
- Staff may be assigned to precept or have students shadow during their contract
- First-time travelers are accepted for this position
- All travelers must float within hospital system as needed
- Charge nurse duties may be required depending on operational needs
- Up to 5 days of requested time off are automatically approved
- Expected to work at least 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignment
- Call-ins for scheduled shifts must be made up during the pay period or at the end of the contract depending on FTE status
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact state RN license in hand at time of application or confirmation of fingerprint package submission for licensure
- BCLS certification from AHA or RQI, current at time of consideration
- Minimum 18 months to 2 years Med/Surg nursing experience required
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred
- Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Not accepting local candidates for Med/Surg positions
- Previous perm or PRN employees must have been separated for a minimum of 12 months to be eligible
