Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring general surgery and ortho experience on night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital-based Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Patient population includes adults, geriatrics, and adolescents with a tanner score above 4 by prearrangement
• Nursing ratio is 1:5
• Care for patients recovering from complex total joint surgeries, spine fusions, foot and ankle, head and neck, colorectal, hepatobiliary, urology, and GYN surgeries
• Shift schedule is 3x12 hour night shifts (19:00–07:30)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage as scheduled
• Floating required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
• No pre-scheduled on-call shift requirements
• Unit equipment includes IV, PCA, PCEA, capnography, and wound vac
• Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring, post-surgical care, and use of specialized equipment
• Communication supported by zebra phone and tiger connect secure text messaging
• Documentation utilizes HCHAPS, bedside shift report, and white boards
• Dress code and scrub requirements not specified; inquire if needed

Requirements

• Active RN license in Maryland or a compact state
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required, with general surgery and orthopedic skills
• Will consider first-time travelers with at least 1 year of recent healthcare provider experience and strong clinical skills
• Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale certifications required
• CPI certification preferred
• Ability to perform EKGs and telemetry monitoring
• Knowledge of rhythm basics required
