Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in an acute care setting with flexible day shifts and both BLS and NIHSS certification requirements.

Responsibilities

• Work in a hospital-based Med/Surg unit within an acute care environment
• Serve either on the 5T (34 beds) or 7T (36 beds) Med/Surg units
• Patient population includes diagnoses such as CKD, ESRD, CVA, DM, COPD, Sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, Anemia, Weakness, and COVID
• Typical nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-6
• Day shifts are 12 hours from 7a-7p, with flexible scheduling
• Scheduled to work 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks
• Holiday coverage is required according to unit assignment
• Floating within the medical-surgical division is required
• Uses Cerner EMR system
• No call or standby required for contract staff
• Provide care to a diverse medical-surgical patient population with a range of complex conditions
• Perform titration of heparin drips on 7T and manage set rate drips as per unit protocols
• Support from charge nurse and nurse aides; nurse aide ratios aim for 1:12 or better
• Orientation varies by unit and includes both on-unit and classroom-based training
• Must supply and wear ceil blue scrubs

Requirements

• Active AL or Compact RN license required
• Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg RN experience
• Current BLS certification required for all units; NIHSS certification required for 5T
• Ability to read telemetry strips independently is required
• Experience with high flow, CPAP, BiPAP, and all O2 modalities up to BiPAP; no ventilator management required
• Must comply with a 100-mile radius rule from the facility
