Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Resource Pool position covering MedSurg, Stepdown, and Telemetry units at a Level 1 trauma center, requiring Epic experience and a WV or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in an acute care hospital setting as part of the Resource Pool, covering all MedSurg, Stepdown, and Tele units
- Care for a diverse patient population including stepdown, neuro, ortho, trauma, general medicine, and oncology cases
- Patient ratios are 1:3 for Stepdown and 1:6 for MedSurg/Telemetry units
- Units include long-term antibiotic infusion, trauma and general surgery, neuro stepdown, epilepsy monitoring, surgical oncology, and more
- Each unit has up to 34 beds
- Night shifts only, with weekend night clusters required (F,S,S or S,S,M), 7:00 pm - 7:30 am
- Use of EPIC EMR is required
- Responsibilities include providing care across multiple units as needed, with flexibility and strong skills in various specialties
- Must be well-rounded and adaptable to different unit requirements including stepdown, neuro, ortho, trauma, general medicine, and oncology
- Royal blue scrubs are required
- Up-to-date skills checklist and professional references are needed for consideration
- Holiday and weekend coverage is required
- Pass/fail EKG testing required for Stepdown unit assignment
- Extensions are only considered if 45 days or less remain in the contract
- Travelers are not permitted to work within WVU for longer than one year without taking a two-year break
- Candidates can only be considered for one position within the WVU system at a time
Requirements
- Active RN license from WV or compact state required
- Minimum 2 years of acute care RN experience
- Current AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Previous Level 1 trauma and travel nursing experience preferred
- Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
- Returning employees must have a 2-year break since previous employment at any WVU Medicine location

Units are traveler friendly, ratios 1:2 ICU, 1:3 SD, 1:5-6 Floor. Epic charting system, lots of resources and ancillary services available at most times. Easy to reach out to docs, docs are hit and miss on good communication like most places. Usually have float nurses in the ICU units to help out.
Cons
Common to get pulled as a traveler but wont pull ICU to anywhere but other ICU and SD.
