Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Orthopedics position with ortho patient care and Epic charting skills for night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute hospital setting on the 4N Ortho-Neuro Med/Surg unit
• 33-bed unit with all private rooms, specializing in orthopedic and neuro patients
• Typical cases include elective orthopedic surgeries such as hips, knees, shoulders, fractures, back and neck surgeries, as well as general Med/Surg
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6
• Use of Epic EMR is required
• 12-hour night shifts with a half-hour lunch, scheduled every other weekend
• Travelers are first to float and may be assigned to any Med/Surg units as needed
• Remote telemetry monitored by another unit; RNs are not required to read strips
• Royal blue scrubs are required; only royal blue scrub jackets permitted
• Primary responsibility is the management and care of orthopedic and neuro-surgery patients
• Charge RN present 24/7; night charge nurses will have patient assignments
• Patient Care Techs provide support with vitals, ADLs, and other delegated tasks based on staffing levels
• One-day Epic orientation and one day of floor orientation with a preceptor provided before independent shifts
• Floating may include assignment to Tele units within skillset
• Holiday coverage may be required depending on unit staffing needs
• No titration of drips required; RNs manage IV fluids and PCA pumps only
• Not eligible for travelers who have worked within WVU Medicine for more than one year without a two-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent relevant experience
• Current AHA BLS certification required
• Experience caring for orthopedic patients and working with PCA pumps is required
• Proficiency with Epic EMR is required
• Must submit an unexpired copy of driver’s license for consideration
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
• Previous employment at any WVU Medicine location requires a 2-year break before re-applying
