Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift Med/Surg-Oncology position requiring ONC certification and chemotherapy administration experience.

Responsibilities

• Work on a Medical Surgical unit with an oncology patient population in a hospital setting
• Night shift schedule (3x12 hours, 18:45-07:15) with every other weekend required
• Primary patient ratios are 1:6, but may be higher during increased census
• Care includes general med/surg diagnoses and administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, injection)
• Required to float to similar units, including inpatient holding in the ED and alternate medical care locations
• Call required if called off on a prescheduled shift
• Expected to work as part of Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events or disasters
• Uses PYXIS for medication, Epic for charting, and SBAR for communication
• Unit orientation provides 24 hours (2 shifts) of training
• Responsible for comprehensive nursing care of med/surg patients, including those with oncology histories and complex diagnoses
• Expected to attend monthly staff meetings
• Navy blue and white scrubs required
• Contract staff may be preassigned or consolidated to different units as needed
• Attendance is closely monitored and RTO after booking is not permitted
• First-time travelers will be considered
• Locals accepted with no rate difference

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license
• Minimum of 2 years recent inpatient Med/Surg experience
• Current ONC certification required prior to start
• BLS certification required
• Ability to administer chemotherapy required
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Experience with colostomy care, central and peripheral lines, PICC management, blood product administration, wound care, surgical drains, chest tubes, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, heparin and insulin administration
• Epic EMR and Pyxis medication system experience preferred
• CPR (CPI), OCN certification, and charge nurse experience preferred
