Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Ortho/Trauma unit requiring flexibility with weekend shifts and strong teamwork skills.
Responsibilities
- Work on an Ortho/Trauma Med/Surg unit at a teaching hospital
- Patient population includes scheduled ortho surgeries (hips and knees) and trauma cases such as MVAs, shootings, stabbings, and falls
- High acuity, fast-paced environment with patients often having drains and tubes post-emergent surgery or ICU stay
- Staffing ratios are 1:5-6
- Night shift schedule: three 12-hour shifts per week (19:00-7:30)
- Must be flexible with weekend requirements, working approximately 50% of weekends during the contract
- Floating may be required to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within both University and Methodist hospitals
- Charting is performed using Cerner EMR
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travelers may be assigned charge nurse duties as needed with training provided
- Must be open to precepting and having students shadow as part of the teaching environment
- Required to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the contract
- Travelers will float within the hospital or to an affiliated hospital as needed
- Not accepting local candidates for this position
- Perm or PRN IU employees must have a 12-month separation before being eligible as a traveler
- Up to 5 days of requested time off (RTO) can be auto-approved
Requirements
- Active IN or Compact RN license in hand or fingerprint application submitted
- Graduation from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Minimum of 18 months to 2 years of Med/Surg nursing experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team
