Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a stepdown/intermediate care position with a rotating day/night schedule and advanced cardiac care responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Position is in a 30-bed Intermediate Care Unit (IMU) within an acute care hospital setting
• Patient population includes chest pain, CHF, arrhythmias, post-pacer, pre/post-caths, and other intermediate acuity conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5, occasionally up to 1:6
• Responsibilities include telemetry monitoring and titration of drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Labetolol, Nitro, Heparin, and occasionally Lasix
• Nurses are required to read and interpret their own telemetry strips using Nihon Kohden monitors
• Uses Allscripts (Sunrise) EMR
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts with required weekend coverage
• Ability to float as needed to Tele or MedSurg units and occasionally to a pandemic unit
• First day includes orientation with HR, followed by precepted unit orientation over two days
• Scrub requirement is navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jackets; hoodies are not permitted
• Hospitalist present in-house 24/7; Intensivist and residents available 24/7 in ICU
• IV team is responsible for all IV starts and a PICC/Midline team is available
• Weekend requirement is four weekend shifts per four-week schedule for both days and nights
• Flexibility for holiday coverage may be required as determined by staffing needs
• Pass/fail EKG testing may be required prior to start
• CNAs assist with patient care with typical ratios of 1:10-12
• Self-scheduling is permitted with four requested days off per month

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum of 2 years stepdown or equivalent experience
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Must be able to titrate cardiac drips and interpret telemetry strips
• Must provide a copy of an unexpired driver's license
• Required to reside at least 50 miles from the facility; local travelers not accepted
• Candidates who have previously worked any WVU Medicine location must have a 2-year separation before reapplying
• Candidates may not work at WVU for longer than one year consecutively and must then take a 2-year break
