Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Chemo Certified Oncology RN with ONS certification and experience in a Med/Surg setting for variable shifts.
Responsibilities
- Hospital-based Hematology Oncology Med/Surg unit
- Care for patients with lymphoma, myeloma, leukemias, sickle cell disease, benign hematology, and non-hematologic cancers
- Nurse-to-patient staffing ratio goal is 1:4, may be up to 1:5
- Float to other Med/Surg and Oncology units as needed
- Shifts may include days, nights, or rotating day/night 12-hour shifts
- Weekend shifts assigned based on unit needs
- Self-scheduling requests accepted before final schedule is posted
- Uses Epic for computerized charting; prior Epic experience required
- Administer chemotherapy, IV antibiotics, insulin drips, and heparin drips to oncology patients
- Respond to oncologic emergencies including tumor lysis syndrome and cytokine release syndrome
- Emphasize infection prevention and fall reduction protocols
- One week of daytime orientation followed by on-unit preceptorship
- Scrub requirements not specified; follow unit policy
- Holiday coverage may be required according to departmental needs
Requirements
- Active OH or compact RN license
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- ONS (Oncology Nursing Society) chemotherapy certification required
- Experience with Med/Surg and telemetry nursing
- Proficiency in chemotherapy administration, blood product administration, and management of oncologic emergencies
- Skilled in telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and use of rapid response teams
- IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central and peripheral line care experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
