Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift position with Cerner EMR experience and BLS certification required.

Details

• Work in an acute care hospital setting on either the 5T or 7T Med/Surg units
• Night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, 12-hour shifts
• Patient census per unit is 34 beds (5T) or 36 beds (7T), nurse to patient ratios are 1:5-6
• Weekend requirement is 4 shifts per 4 weeks
• Floating required within the medical-surgical division
• No on-call or standby requirements for contract staff
• Charting is done using Cerner EMR
• Patient population includes diagnoses such as CKD, ESRD, CVA, DM, COPD, Sepsis, AMS, UTI, AKI, Diabetes, Anemia, Weakness, and COVID
• 5T unit uses high flow, CPAP, and BiPAP; 7T unit uses all O2 modalities up to BiPAP (no ventilators)
• Staff may need to titrate Heparin on 7T (with pharmacist direction); Amiodarone, Dobutamine, and Cardizem are set rate drips for stable patients on 7T

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• At least 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• Current BLS certification required for both units
• NIHSS certification required for 5T unit only
• Ability to independently read telemetry strips is required
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred
• Must be able to work night shifts as scheduled
• Must live at least 100 miles from the facility per radius rule

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care to adult patients with a wide range of complex and acute diagnoses
• Teamwork and initiative are emphasized, especially in the 7T unit
• Ceil blue scrubs are required and not provided
• 5T unit includes two orientation shifts on the unit; 7T unit orientation includes one week at the education center and two twelve-hour shifts on the unit
• Nurse aides support the units with a goal of a ≤1:12 aide to patient ratio
• Charge nurse may take patient assignments based on census and staffing needs
• Holiday coverage required based on unit policy
