Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele and Oncology PCU position on a mixed acuity, adult unit requiring night shifts and chemotherapy certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a 27-28 bed mixed acuity unit covering PCU, Med/Surg, and Oncology patients in an acute care setting
  • Patient population includes adults with oncology and trauma diagnoses
  • Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4 for PCU and 1:5 for Med/Surg, with night ratios 1:5-6
  • Uses Epic EMR and Alaris IV pumps
  • Common therapies and medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix drips
  • Specialty equipment includes Lyko lifts and other lift devices; ventilator and other hemodynamic monitoring equipment available
  • Nursing assistant and comprehensive support staff including PT/OT, social workers, case managers, and educators
  • Twelve-hour night shifts with an every-other-weekend requirement
  • Self-scheduling is available
  • Floating required to similar level of care units (PCU and Med/Surg)
  • Oncology and PCU experience required
  • Charge responsibilities expected when assigned
  • Nurses provide care for patients from initial diagnosis through treatment or end-of-life support
  • Emphasis on hourly rounding and excellent patient experience
  • Supportive and diverse team environment valued for its teamwork and respect for all backgrounds
  • Orientation includes two days with a pass/fail skills exam
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Scrub color requirement is navy blue
  • Holiday coverage may be required per department needs
  • Requested RTO must be submitted upfront and is limited to 7 days per 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NE or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care nursing experience, including oncology and PCU
  • Active BLS (AHA), ACLS, NIHSS, and ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certifications required
  • Chemotherapy certification is mandatory
  • Experience titrating drips such as insulin and cardizem
  • Ability to pass a required open-book skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
  • Must live at least 50 miles from the facility, as verified by driver's license
  • No full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the last year
  • Compliant with fingernail policy (no artificial nails in patient care areas)
  • References: one supervisor within the last 12 months and one peer/supervisor within the last 3 years
