Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Operating Room RN for a 10-hour day shift position requiring a NC or compact RN license and strong independent OR skills.

Responsibilities

• Work in a non-teaching hospital operating room with 3 OR suites and a patient census of approximately 10 surgical cases per day
• Patient population is primarily adults with some pediatric ENT cases, including general, GYN, orthopedic (total joints, ORIFs, upper extremity), and urology surgeries
• Experience with Medtronic Hugo robotics is not required
• Uses EPIC for EMR documentation and additional equipment such as Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing
• Scheduled 10-hour day shifts from 0630 to 1700, with a rotating day off each week
• On-call required: one weeknight per week (1830-0630) and every 5th weekend (Saturday morning to Monday morning); 30-minute callback time mandated
• Call requirements apply on 50% of holidays; call only on weekends and holidays
• No floating to other units required

• Scrubs are provided with extended sizing if needed
• Duties include circulating and potentially scrubbing for a variety of surgical cases
• Team structure during the day includes 5-6 RNs, 4-5 surgical techs, charge RN, anesthesiology, RT, and hospitalist support
• On-call shifts require the RN to operate independently without immediate on-site charge RN support, with leader availability by phone
• Two shifts of initial unit orientation with buddy call, plus facility orientation provided
• Holiday coverage required for call shifts on 50% of holidays
• Schedule created in 6-week cycles; while block scheduling cannot be guaranteed, efforts are made to accommodate requests
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Approval of requested time off must go through the manager

Requirements

• Active NC or compact RN license required
• Minimum 3 years of acute OR nursing experience
• Recent operating room experience within the last year is essential
• BLS certification required
• Experience with the stated surgical case types and willingness to circulate; scrubbing experience preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Must feel comfortable working independently as the sole RN on callback shifts
• Applicant's permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
• At least one recent professional reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN is necessary
• Returning employees must have had at least a one-year separation from any AHSE facility after permanent employment
