Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Float Pool RN with at least two years of experience and proficiency in Cerner or Epic EMR for night shifts at a Level II Trauma Center.
Responsibilities
- Work within a hospital setting that is a Level II Trauma Center with multiple specialized units
- Home unit assigned on first day orientation, but floating to similar units is required
- Units include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Clinical Decision, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
- Patient populations handled include trauma, neuro, general surgery, oncology, orthopedic, urology, and a broad range of medical conditions
- Typical patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6, with some team nursing units up to 1:8
- Utilizes Cerner EMR, Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
- Telemetry monitoring is required, with RNs interpreting and confirming strip readings every 4 hours
- Schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts (7:00 pm–7:00 am) with a 4-week schedule cycle
- Every other weekend or at least four weekend days per month are required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Daily responsibilities may include wound care, IV therapy, chest tubes, trach care, PEG/NG tubes, and medication administration
- Support structure includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomists, IV/VAT team, and tele monitoring techs
- Travelers receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation if new or returning after one year
- Scrub color requirements are ceil blue or white
- Holiday coverage requires one major and one minor holiday per policy
- Time off requests may be approved up to seven days unless falling within blackout dates
- First-time travelers are considered if all experience and skill requirements are met
- Parking is available in designated parking deck levels
Requirements
- Active AL or compact state RN license required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of two years’ RN experience required; at least one year must be trauma experience
- Proficiency with Cerner or Epic EMR required
- Experience with wound care, IV skills, medication administration, and tele monitoring required
- Perm staff must have been separated for at least 6 months to be eligible as a traveler
- No local candidates permitted within a 60-mile radius
