Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology position requiring MO or compact licensure, chemotherapy certification, and the ability to float within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Work in the Oncology unit of a short-term acute care, Magnet and teaching hospital with Level I Trauma designation
  • Night shifts, 3x12 hours weekly, 19:00 - 07:30
  • Patient ratio is 4:1 on all shifts with an average daily census of 30 and 32 beds
  • Care includes BMT oncology patients and auto stem cell transplants
  • Administration of chemotherapy and blood products required
  • Must float throughout the Oncology department based on shift needs
  • Every other weekend is a required work schedule component
  • EPIC EMR is used, and experience with EPIC is required
  • Responsibilities include chemotherapy administration, auto stem cell transplant support, central line care, and handling a full oncology patient assignment
  • Required skills include accessing and managing ports, central line blood draws, starting/maintaining IVs, antibiotic and antiemetic administration, foley catheter care, and infection isolation precautions
  • Must provide weekend and holiday coverage as scheduled
  • Navy blue scrubs are required
  • Paid training modules are completed prior to start
  • Parking is available with monthly fees depending on shift; nights park free in employee lots
  • Time off is limited to 7 days per 13-week contract, with no time off permitted during the first week of orientation
  • Travelers may stay for up to 18 months with a mandatory 3-month break afterwards

Requirements

  • Active MO or compact RN license required
  • Current ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy certification, ACLS, and BLS required
  • At least 1 year of oncology nursing experience is required
  • Must be proficient in telemetry interpretation and monitoring, with passing score on Relias EKG exam required
  • Experience with administration of chemotherapy, blood/blood products, central line/implanted line and PICC care, port access, and IV management
  • First time travelers accepted for this assignment
  • Candidates must reside outside a 75-mile radius; no local candidates allowed
  • Permanent employees must wait one year before returning as a traveler
