Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of cardiac floor experience for a night shift PCU position requiring strong cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a cardiac patient population
  • Patient diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, and various cardiac and vascular conditions
  • Handles post-surgical, post-cardiac cath, and post-electrophysiology procedure cases, including CABG and thoracic surgeries
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4 for surgical stepdown and 1:5-6 for lower acuity
  • Night shifts only, 3x12 hours per week (36 hours)
  • Weekend requirement is 4 shifts per 4 weeks with flexible scheduling
  • Floating follows unit rotation, travelers are not the first to float
  • Use of equipment such as EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, and epicardial pacing wires
  • EPIC is used for documentation, Pyxis for medication, and SBAR for communication
  • 24-hour unit orientation provided
  • Navy scrubs required
  • Assignment may be extended up to 26 weeks
  • Responsibilities include care for a variety of complex cardiac and vascular post-surgical patients and post-cardiac intervention patients
  • Preferred skills include arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge experience
  • May be assigned duties in catastrophic or disaster events, with potential consolidation to a centralized office mid-contract
  • Every candidate will complete an interview prior to offer
  • No RTO allowed after booking; unapproved absences may result in cancellation
  • Orientation includes 24 hours of training specific to the unit

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years recent experience on a cardiac floor required
  • Experience as a traveler required unless candidate has more than 24 months of cardiac experience
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Must be able to independently manage cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, sheath removal, and cardiac drips (including titration)
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Proficiency in Epic EMR preferred
  • Must be willing and able to work as part of a Storm or Hurricane Team if needed
