Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a Telemetry RN for an acute care PCU/IMC unit with variable night shifts and strong cardiac management skills required.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care PCU/IMC telemetry unit with 30 beds
• Primary patient population includes cardiac, nstemi, post cath lab, afib, CHF, GI bleed, detox, respiratory distress, and sepsis
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is usually 1:4, may stretch to 1:5 depending on staffing support
• Uses telemetry monitors (GE brand) and Cerner EMR, transitioning to Epic
• Required to titrate drips including nitro, diltiazem, insulin, heparin, and amiodarone
• 12-hour variable shifts, predominantly nights, with every other weekend and holiday required
• Floating required to medical-surgical or IMC overflow in ICU as needed
• Charge RNs carry patient assignments and nurse aides are present with varying ratios
• RT equipment such as CPAP, BiPAP, and Optiflow is used
• On-call requirements apply for the unit
• Provide specialized nursing care for cardiology and high acuity medical patients
• Required to wear navy blue scrubs as dress code
• Up to three days of unit and department orientation provided
• Tele techs read monitor strips; RNs are not required to read their own strips
• Holiday coverage is every other holiday
• Must clock in and out for each shift
• First-time travelers are accepted for this position

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
• BLS and ACLS (AHA) certifications required
• Completion of an EKG course required
• Minimum of 1 year recent Telemetry or PCU/IMC experience
• Experience managing IV nitro, heparin, diltiazem, and amiodarone drips strongly preferred
• Experience with Cerner EMR preferred; willingness to work with Epic as unit transitions
• Two professional references required: one supervisor within past 12 months and one peer or supervisor within the past 3 years
• Former permanent staff must have a 6-month separation prior to consideration
• Local candidates living within 80 miles are considered local and subject to adjusted rates
