Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a variable shift Emergency Department position in a critical access hospital, requiring at least 2 years of nursing experience and a MT or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Work in the Emergency Department of a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) with 8 total beds, including 3 ER beds and 5 Medical-Surgical beds
• Patient population includes PNA/COPD, general weakness, electrolyte imbalance, cardiac rule outs, UTI, and diabetes
• Typical RN-to-patient ratio is 1:3, with 2 RNs on each shift and CNA/HUC support
• Shifts are 12 hours, with variable start times (0800-2000/2000-0800)
• Weekend rotation every other weekend and every other holiday required
• No mandatory floating but it is optional
• No on-call responsibilities
• EMR used: Meditech, with ER registration required at midnight; EMR transitioning to Oracle
• RNs are responsible for ER patient registration at midnight
• Department support includes CNA/HUC, receptionist, and on-call phlebotomy after hours
• RT coverage available in house Monday through Friday from 0700-1500
• Hospitalist available 24/7 but not in house
• No telemetry monitoring in the unit
• Scrub color is flexible—any color allowed

• Orientation includes New Employee Orientation and two days of department-specific training

Requirements

• Active MT or compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in a critical access setting; ER background preferred over Medical-Surgical
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
• CPI/MOAB, TNCC, NRP, and PALS certifications preferred
• Ability to perform IV skills, chest tube setup, triage, wound care, splint/casting assistance, physical assessments, and medication administration
• Experience with Meditech EMR preferred
