Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring a WV or compact RN license and expertise with surgical procedures.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting in a hospital main Operating Room with 14 suites
• Responsible for all surgical cases except open heart, with frequent neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general, and ENT cases
• Typical schedule is four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
• Position includes both weekend and weekday on-call rotations, with a 20-minute response time while on call
• May float to outpatient surgery as needed
• Utilizes Epic EMR system for charting
• 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio in the OR
• Charge nurse present during core hours and may circulate cases
• Block scheduling may be available to meet unit needs
• Scrubs are provided for staff
• Will provide circulating duties for various surgical specialties except open heart
• No scrubbing required, but scrubbing experience is a plus
• No requirement to interpret telemetry strips; anesthesia handles this in the OR
• No floating outside surgical services except to outpatient surgery as needed
• Three shifts of unit-specific orientation provided
• First-time travelers to this health system are welcome, but previous perm or travel staff must have a 2-year break before returning
• On-call includes one weekend day per month and one weeknight per week
• Vents are managed in collaboration with RT, who is in-house 24/7
• Pharmacy and medication management supported by Omnicell system
• No self-scheduling available for travelers

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current BLS (AHA), ACLS, and PALS certifications required
• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room RN experience
• At least 2-3 previous travel assignments in the OR setting preferred
• Ortho and neuro surgical experience preferred
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred
• Must live more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Unexpired driver’s license must be provided for consideration
