Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Chemo Certified RN with inpatient Med/Surg experience for a night shift Oncology unit assignment requiring ONC certification and strong clinical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work in an inpatient hospital setting on a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit
  • Primarily care for patients with general med-surg diagnoses who have an oncology history
  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:6, may be higher during high census
  • Night shift position (3x12-hour shifts, 18:45–7:15), every other weekend required
  • Floating required to similar units and inpatient holding locations, including the ED or other alternate care sites
  • Uses PYXIS for medication administration and EPIC for documentation
  • Chemotherapy/biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injection
  • Participation in Storm Team/Hurricane Team and disaster response may be required
  • Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
  • First-time travelers are accepted
  • Preferred qualifications include CPI certification, charge nurse experience, and OCN specialty certification
  • Orientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Navy blue and white scrubs required
  • If called off on a scheduled shift, call may be required; makeup shifts may need to be scheduled
  • No additional RTO will be approved after booking
  • Staff may be assigned away from home unit if needed during census surges or disaster events
  • Contract duration options range from 13 to 26 weeks

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • ONC (Oncology Certified Nurse) certification required; may be obtained prior to start
  • BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of inpatient Med/Surg experience required
  • Experience with colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central and peripheral line management, PICC lines, heparin and insulin drips, surgical drains, chest tubes, airway and isolation management, and wound care
  • Must be able to administer chemotherapy
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
