Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Telemetry assignment requiring 5 years of RN experience, a compact or WV RN license, and advanced cardiac certifications.

Responsibilities

• Work in an acute care telemetry unit with 20 private beds
• Telemetry patient population includes a variety of medical/surgical cases and patients requiring cardiac monitoring or post-catheterization care
• Nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:5 for telemetry
• Night shift schedule: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM with every other weekend and holiday coverage required
• Electronic charting is done with Epic EMR; Epic experience is preferred
• No on-call required
• Floating may occur to other telemetry or med/surg units, or to support admitted patients in other areas
• Responsibilities include providing cardiac monitoring, titrating heparin, reconstituting antibiotics, and reviewing telemetry strips
• Charge nurse and PCT support are available on the unit
• Pharmacist, respiratory therapy, and provider coverage are present 24/7
• Orientation is provided with a blend of educational modules, shadowing, and unit introduction
• Navy blue scrubs are required
• No ventilators on unit; various O2 delivery methods used
• Point of care testing with AccuChek and barcode scanning is utilized
• All candidates must complete EKG testing modules for consideration
• First-day traveler tasks include obtaining a badge and parking pass before unit orientation
• Travelers may be asked to precept or function as charge nurse based on comfort level

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Minimum 5 years of RN experience required
• At least 1 year of prior travel nursing experience required
• Certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS
• Driver’s license required
• Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility address
• Previous permanent employees or travelers at this system must have a 2-year break
