Description

Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Level 3 NICU position requiring a compact or SD RN license and at least 1.5 years of NICU experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a 28-bed Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
  • Average census ranges from 13 to 16 neonates of all gestational ages
  • Patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:4 depending on acuity
  • Responsibilities include care for neonates with low birth weight, requiring high frequency ventilation, nitric oxide, total body cooling, or feeder/grower support
  • No ECMO or cardiac surgery conducted in unit
  • Support team includes CNAs, charge nurses, respiratory therapists, 24/7 neonatologist and neonatal NP coverage, and lactation consultants
  • Epic EMR is used; Alaris and Omnicell equipment in use
  • Floating may occur to PICU, Pediatrics, Postpartum, Newborn Nursery, Adult units (constant observation only), and occasionally pediatric overflow
  • 12-hour variable shifts with potential for weekend and holiday coverage
  • On-call only in the event of low census
  • Travelers may be scheduled for mostly weekend shifts, with no set weekend rotation
  • Must be available to work 2 out of 4 major holidays during assignment
  • Pre-approved time off may be allowed, pending management approval
  • Dress code requires navy scrubs
  • Free parking provided onsite
  • General traveler orientation with one day and one night of unit-specific orientation
  • Very traveler-friendly environment with high renewal rates
  • Unit operates in a supportive team structure with 24/7 access to neonatology and NNP support

Requirements

  • Active SD or compact state RN license required
  • Minimum of 1.5 years NICU RN experience
  • First-time travelers considered with at least 2 years of NICU RN experience
  • BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
  • Proficiency in vent management, IV starts, chest tubes, IV med titration, and neonatal resuscitation preferred
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred; approval needed if lacking Epic experience
  • Must live at least 100 miles from facility
  • Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
