Job Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least one year of experience and an active NY RN license for a hospital-based role.

Responsibilities

• Work in a Med/Surg Telemetry unit within a hospital setting
• Care for patients with diagnoses such as cardiac disease, stroke, infection, pain, and pulmonary embolism
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios are 5:1 on days/eves (may stretch to 6-7), and 6-7:1 on nights (may stretch to 8-10 if staff calls in)
• Shift schedule is 3x12 hour day shifts, 7:00 to 19:00
• Every other weekend required
• Floating may be required to MS, ED, ICU (stable patients), and acute brain injury unit (stable patients)
• Specialized equipment includes bladder scanners, telemetry, EKG machines, and lifepacks
• Block scheduling may be accommodated but is not guaranteed
• EMR used is Epic (experience preferred), but not required
• Duties include management of dysrhythmias, oxygen delivery devices, and peripheral/central line care
• PCTs support vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and ADLs on all units
• Nurses are responsible for PICC and central line care; phlebotomy team handles peripheral lab draws
• Scrub colors are navy blue or white
• Must comply with RTO guidance to keep time off requests close to one week
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted

Requirements

• Active NY RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum of 1 year recent Med/Surg Tele RN experience
• BLS certification required
• Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias required
• Experience with peripheral line and non-invasive airway management
• Ability to use rapid response teams and maintain isolation precautions
