Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring a NC or compact RN license and strong recent Med/Surg Tele experience.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in a 24-bed Med/Surg Telemetry unit at an academic Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Patient population includes general medicine cases such as diabetes, GI, respiratory, renal conditions, wounds, chest tubes, trachs, and lab draws
  • Typical RN patient ratio is 5-6:1
  • Night shift position (1830-0630), 12-hour shifts
  • Every other weekend shifts required
  • Required to work 75% of holidays
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg units as needed
  • No call responsibilities
  • EMR used is Epic; experience preferred
  • Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing systems are used
  • Centralized telemetry monitoring provided
  • Responsibilities include providing direct and indirect nursing care and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Support staff includes CNAs, receptionists/HUC, charge nurses, phlebotomy, rapid response team, respiratory therapy, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • Orientation consists of NEO and two days of departmental training
  • Scrub color is royal blue
  • Free employee parking is available
  • Unit culture emphasizes patient-centered care, high reliability, and strong teamwork
  • First-time travelers may be considered if they have a strong background in Med/Surg Tele
  • Applicants must have been separated from any related permanent position for at least 1 year before reapplying
  • Schedule is generated on a 6-week cycle

Requirements

  • Active NC or compact RN license required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • NIHSS certification required if working on Resource Team
  • Experience reading telemetry strips required
  • Experience with chest tubes, trachs, PIV starts, drains, tubes, and PCA pumps required
  • Ability to manage drips such as Amiodarone, PCA Fentanyl, Ketamine, Dilaudid, and Heparin required
  • Must provide at least one professional reference from a supervisory title dated within the last year
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Locals residing within 50 miles are not eligible
