Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position requiring GA or compact licensure and proficiency with cardiac drips.
Responsibilities
- Work in med/surg and telemetry units of a large teaching hospital with Level 1 trauma designation
- Unit sizes range from 20 to 36 beds
- Patient population includes general med/surg and telemetry patients
- Nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:4-6
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis med dispensing, Phillips monitors, and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
- Shift is 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM with an every other weekend rotation
- Float required to all med/surg and telemetry units as needed
- No on-call requirements
- Primary duties include caring for a broad range of med/surg and telemetry patients and managing cardiac medications
- Team support includes CNA, charge nurse, unit secretary, discharge and float resource nurses, and 24/7 respiratory, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
- RNs responsible for drawing blood from central lines; lab collect phlebotomy otherwise applies
- One day facility orientation and two days departmental orientation provided
- Scrub color for RNs is navy blue
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply

- Must work 75% of holidays during the assignment
- No radius rule; locals are accepted at the same rate
Requirements
- Active GA or compact RN license
- Minimum 2 years recent med/surg telemetry RN experience
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS preferred; completion of EKG competency exam required during onboarding
- Proficient with all cardiac drips and skills such as trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, glucometer use, and titratable drips
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Must provide one professional reference from a supervisor, manager, director, or charge RN dated within one year
- Must be separated from any previous permanent employment at the facility for at least 1 year
