Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced OR RN specializing in abdominal transplant surgery for a night shift travel contract at an acute care teaching hospital in Indiana, with a hard requirement for transplant OR experience.

Responsibilities

  • Short-term acute care hospital setting, Operating Room department
  • Unit exclusively performs abdominal transplants, including kidney, pancreas, liver, and intestinal/multi-visceral procedures
  • Night shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
  • On-call requirement of 40–60 hours per 6-week period
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate hospitals; multi-specialty, all surgeries
  • Charting system: Cerner (experience required)
  • 13-week contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, provided they have a minimum of 2 years of strong transplant OR experience
  • Candidates must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Up to 5 days of non-holiday RTO may be auto-approved; additional time off requires facility approval
  • Indiana residents are accepted as local travelers for this Perioperative Surgical Services position
  • Effective March 1, 2026, Indiana residents are no longer eligible to sign new contracts for OR RN (including Transplant) roles at this facility
  • Any current or former permanent or PRN employee of IU Health must have a 12-month break in employment before being eligible to travel at this facility
  • Current or past IU Health travelers who have accrued 12 months of travel employment anywhere within IU Health must take a designated consecutive break to reset travel eligibility; out-of-state residents require a 90-day break and in-state residents require a 180-day break prior to reaching their traveler year mark
  • Parking is free at this facility

Requirements

  • Active IN RN license, temporary IN license, or compact RN license required — must be in hand prior to start
  • Nursing degree from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited institution required
  • Minimum 2 years of strong, recent transplant OR experience required (hard stop)
  • Current BLS certification (AHA or RQI accepted)
  • Regulatory charting for transplants required
  • Proficiency with general OR skills including laparoscopic procedures, organ donation, scrub transplant surgery, and transplant-specific organ experience (kidney, liver, pancreas, intestinal)
  • Cerner EMR experience required
  • SSN and date of birth required for consideration
  • 2 supervisor references required for consideration
