Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Telemetry position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience with strong cardiac skills, including dysrhythmia interpretation and cardiac drip management.
Responsibilities
- Work setting is a hospital telemetry unit caring for cardiac patients
- Patient population includes those with congestive heart failure, arrhythmias, and post-cardiac cath diagnoses
- Specialized procedures include sheath pulls, TR bands, Femstop, cardiac drip titration (Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Milrinone, Dopamine), and cardiac monitoring
- Patient ratio is 1:6-7
- 12-hour night shifts, 18:45–07:15
- 36-hour workweek
- Requires working 5–6 weekend shifts per contract (approximately every other weekend)
- Floating is required as needed and may occur every shift, including to affiliate hospitals nearby
- EMR: Epic (experience required); Pyxis for medication dispensing; SBAR for communication
- Self-scheduling per unit needs
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualties, or disasters
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Unit orientation is 24 hours
- Navy scrubs required; not provided by the facility
- Candidate must work 2 out of 3 major holidays; RTO is not approved during holidays
- No RTO is permitted during the first week of assignment due to orientation
- Any previous permanent, PRN, or EP staff employee of this health system must wait 12 months before applying as a traveler; facility rehire approval is required
- Clinicians currently working a travel per diem role at this health system are ineligible for a travel assignment simultaneously
- Candidates residing within 50 miles of the facility will be offered a local pay rate
- Travel pairs are allowed but must be submitted for and work on different units
- 13- to 26-week contracts are accepted
- Nurse Manager interview is required prior to offer finalization
Requirements
- Active NC or Compact RN license required in hand at time of start
- Current certifications required: BLS and ACLS
- NIHSS certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with strong cardiac background
- Telemetry and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience required
- Experience with interpretation of dysrhythmias and remote monitoring required
- Experience with Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, Pre/Post Cardiac Surgery, and sheath removal required
- Experience with port access, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management required
- Experience titrating cardiac drips including Diltiazem and Amiodarone required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Candidate must be comfortable floating with no restrictions or special requests
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- Two manager/supervisor references from within the past 12 months required at time of start
- Charge nurse experience preferred
