Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU) position at a Level I Trauma Academic Medical Center, requiring Swan-Ganz monitoring proficiency and a CT or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- High-acuity CVICU setting within a large Level I Trauma Center and Academic Medical Center with 1,500+ beds
- Patient population includes post-cardiac surgery, CABG, TAVR, valve repair/replacement, pre/post cardiac cath/intervention, and acute stroke cases
- Average patient ratio of 1:2 on both day and night shifts
- Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:00)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required to other Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) ICUs
- No on-call required
- Epic EMR — experience required
- Block scheduling is not available
- Key clinical skills include: ventilator management, arterial line management, epicardial pacing wire care, central line/PICC management, titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips, continuous IV sedation and paralytics, chest tube care, ABG interpretation, and management of dysrhythmias
- Additional procedural experience expected: sheath removal, 12-lead EKG/ECG acquisition, BiPAP/CPAP management, HFNC, IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, and wound vac/surgical drain care
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply provided they have cardiothoracic ICU and/or critical care experience
- Former permanent staff must have been separated for at least 2 years before returning as a traveler
- RTO exceeding 7 days requires facility approval
- Parking is available at a cost of approximately $125/month
Requirements
- Active CT or compact RN license required; pending license accepted (CT license takes 15–21 business days to issue — apply early)
- Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS; CCRN preferred
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU or critical care RN experience required
- Proficiency with Swan-Ganz/pulmonary artery line monitoring required
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Experience at a large Trauma Center facility required; Level I Trauma experience preferred
- Epic EMR experience required
- One supervisor reference dated within the last year required for consideration
- Flu vaccine required; declinations are not accepted
- COVID vaccine required; religious or medical exemptions accepted
- RN license must be free of prior disciplinary actions
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
