Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced travel RN for a Telemetry unit position requiring prior travel experience, cardiac drip management, and strong arrhythmia knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Hospital telemetry unit with 32 beds serving an adult to geriatric patient population
• Primary patient cases include cardiac arrhythmias (stable A-Fib, SVT, bradycardia), CHF, chest pain, post cardiac cath/PCI, DKA, renal, pulmonary (COPD, pulmonary edema, PE, DVT), and surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
• Occasional overflow of vascular, orthopedic, and CVA patients who are transferred to appropriate units as soon as possible
• Patient ratio of 1:5–6
• Functions as overflow IMCU as needed
• EMR: Epic (preferred); also uses Pyxis and SBAR communication protocol
• Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating within the facility within scope of practice as needed
• On-call is rare; 2-hour response time required if called in
• Responsibilities include arrhythmia management, cardioversion, cardiac drip titration and management, hemodynamic monitoring, and pre/post cardiac cath care
• Preferred skills include BiPAP/CPAP and HFNC management, central and peripheral line care, port access, phlebotomy, feeding tube management, insulin drip titration, and blood product administration
• Navy blue scrubs required
• RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days; RTO cannot be requested during the first week of the assignment
• Holiday coverage policy: if 1 or 2 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler is expected to work all of them and no holiday RTO will be approved; if 3 major holidays fall within the assignment period, the traveler must work 2 and may request 1 holiday off for approval
• Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
• No special scheduling requests, alternate shifts, or schedule modifications will be accommodated
• Local candidates are accepted for this position
• Previous charge nurse experience is preferred

Requirements

• Active GA or Compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Experience with cardiac drip titration is required (amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, dopamine, nitroglycerin, milrinone, heparin, argatroban, aggrastat, bumex, lasix)
• Hemodynamic monitoring and post-PCI care experience required
• Basic and advanced arrhythmia interpretation and management required
• Experience with TR bands and cardiac monitoring required
• Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurse references not accepted) are highly preferred
• Candidates who have previously worked for or as a traveler at this health system must have been away from all system facilities for a minimum of 1 full year
