Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical position at a teaching hospital in West Virginia, requiring a minimum of 2 years of RN experience and active WV or compact licensure.

Responsibilities

• 13-week contract with possibility of extension
• Medical/Surgical unit (5S) in a teaching hospital setting
• Patient ratio of 1:5–7
• Day shift schedule: 3x12-hour shifts, 7:00am–7:30pm, including weekdays and weekends
• EMR: Cerner (required)
• Scheduled time off requests cannot be guaranteed but the unit will make reasonable efforts to accommodate travelers
• Candidate responsibilities include Med/Surg nursing care across a broad patient population including cardiovascular, neurological, orthopedic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, renal, and endocrine/metabolic cases
• Preferred skills include dysrhythmia management, post-MI care, bariatric surgery recovery, pre/post hemodialysis management, tracheostomy care, chest tube management, and ABG interpretation
• Scrubs are not provided by the facility
• Orientation is held every other Thursday; pre-start online modules averaging approximately 8 hours must be completed prior to the first day
• Attendance reliability is especially important for this role — excessive call-offs may result in contract termination
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those between 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the same rate
• Current or recent employees of any Vandalia Health System facility (including CAMC Health Systems, Mon Health Systems, Davis Medical Center, Broaddus Hospital, Webster Memorial Hospital, Grafton City Hospital, Highland-Clarksburg Hospital, and Minnie Hamilton Health System) are not eligible for this travel contract
• Former permanent employees of this health system must have a gap of at least 2 years from their last date of permanent employment before being eligible
• Any previous probationary actions on license will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required; pending license acceptable
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (must be American Heart Association-issued)
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Cerner EMR experience required
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy, and emergency response
• A valid driver's license and Social Security card are required for consideration
• A minimum of 2 manager or charge nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration
