Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU travel position requiring ACT experience, open-heart post-op admission skills, and a valid WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• CVICU setting within an acute care hospital
• Patient ratio of 1:2, acuity-based; unit may occasionally have step-down level overflow patients
• Alternating day and night shifts in blocks, rotating between 7:00–19:00 and 19:00–7:00 based on facility need
• 3x12-hour shifts per week, including weekdays and weekends
• Blocked schedules considered only for weekend-only requests (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• Cerner EMR (experience preferred)
• 13-week contract with possible extension
• Responsibilities include managing post-cardiac surgery patients directly from the OR, hemodynamic monitoring, and management of ventricular assist devices and vasoactive/cardiac drips
• Additional skills utilized include IABP, TAVR, valve repair/replacement, LVAD/RVAD, procedural sedation, chest tube assistance, ventilator management, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
• Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; those residing 75–100 miles may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the same rate
• Current or recent permanent, PRN, or per-diem employees of any Vandalia Health System facility are not eligible for a travel contract
• Former permanent employees must have been separated for at least 2 years before being eligible as a traveler
• Any previous probationary actions on license will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis
• Orientation is held every other Thursday; pre-start online modules averaging approximately 8 hours are required prior to the first day
• Scrubs are not provided by the facility
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply; travel experience is not required
• RTO requests should be submitted at the time of application

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required; pending license acceptable
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS — must be AHA-issued
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• ACT (Activated Clotting Time) experience required
• Experience with direct fresh open-heart admissions from the OR required
• Experience with Swan-Ganz catheter management required
• Experience with Impella monitoring required
• Experience with CRRT/CVVHD required
• Experience with pressure monitoring and arterial line management required
• Cardiac surgery skills required
• Driver's license and SSN card required for consideration
• Minimum 2 manager or charge nurse references within the past 2 years required for consideration
