Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a PCU/Trauma Stepdown (IMC) position at a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital, requiring telemetry and trauma experience with night shift availability.
Responsibilities
- Work setting is a 5S Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU) unit within a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital (COTH member) with 855 staffed beds
- Unit consists of 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, and 6 pediatric beds — travelers are not required to care for pediatric patients
- Multidisciplinary team approach providing nursing care to multi-system trauma and surgical patients
- Step-down unit provides an intermediate level of care
- Patient ratios: 1:5 on the floor and 1:3 in the SDU
- Contract options available as 3x12 or 4x12 nights, 7p–7a
- Every other weekend required
- Floating within scope possible to meet facility needs
- Charting system: Cerner (preferred experience)
- Scrubs: Royal Blue or White for RNs
- Free parking available for travelers
- First-time travelers are accepted if they have ICU or trauma experience
- Current or former permanent employees of any Vandalia Health System facility (including CAMC, Mon Health, Davis Medical Center, and affiliated hospitals) are not eligible for a travel contract at this facility
- Former permanent CAMC employees must have been separated for at least 2 years before being eligible to return as a traveler
- Orientation is held every other Thursday
- Pre-start modules are required and average 2–4 hours; completion certificates are provided upon finishing
- Holiday RTO requests are limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
- Blocked schedule requests can be accommodated
- COVID vaccine is not required
Requirements
- Active WV or Compact RN license required; pending license acceptable
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Minimum 1 year of in-specialty experience required (PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU background ideal)
- Required certifications: BLS and ACLS (must be AHA-issued), CPI, and Fit Test; TNCC preferred
- Required skills: IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry monitoring, Level 1 trauma experience, and conscious sedation
- Additional skills: central and PICC line management, cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management, chest tube management, tracheostomy care, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions
- Driver's License and SSN required for consideration
- Minimum 2 manager or charge references within the past 2 years required for consideration
- Must reside more than 100 miles from the facility; candidates residing 75–99 miles away may be considered on a case-by-case basis at the same rate
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 – March 31); medical exemption documentation from an allergist or physician accepted
