Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience, Epic proficiency, and community hospital background.

Responsibilities

  • Labor & Delivery unit in a community hospital setting
  • Low-risk patient population with fewer than 100 facility births per month
  • Patient ratio of 1:4
  • Works across multiple care areas including antepartum, L&D, Level I Nursery, LDRP, Mother/Baby, and couplet care
  • Schedule is 3x12-hour evening shifts (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required
  • On-call is required
  • Holiday coverage required as needed
  • Floating required as needed
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Performs antepartum procedures including NSTs, OCTs, sterile vaginal and speculum exams, triage, and external fetal monitoring
  • Manages care for high-acuity obstetric conditions including pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, placenta previa/abruptio, VBAC, malpresentations, and multiple gestation
  • Administers a wide range of medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, Prostaglandins, antihypertensives, and insulin drips
  • Performs L&D management duties including assisting with vaginal deliveries, circulating for C-sections, recovering C-section patients, and managing hemorrhage/shock
  • Provides neonatal care including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, cord sample collection, and use of radiant warmers
  • Provides postpartum care including breastfeeding/lactation support, fundus/lochia/perineum care, wound assessment, and postpartum hemorrhage management
  • Performs surgical case assistance including cervical cerclage and D&C procedures
  • Prior to starting, candidates must complete online modules, which are completed pre-start and generally take 5–6 hours
  • Manager interview is required as part of the selection process; candidates are first reviewed by clinical staff for fit
  • RTO is limited to a maximum of 7 days for the duration of the contract
  • Travel pairs are accepted, though matched schedules cannot be guaranteed
  • This is a tobacco-free and fragrance-free facility
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for the travel pay rate
  • May be required to care for COVID-positive patients

Requirements

  • Active PA or Compact RN license required — no license violations accepted
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Travel experience required
  • Epic EMR proficiency required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS (AHA or ARC only), AWHONN Intermediate, and NRP
  • Preferred certifications: AWHONN Advanced
  • Preferred: Prior charge nurse experience
  • Proficiency with external and internal fetal monitoring, IUPC placement, and recognition/treatment of abnormal FHR patterns
  • IV therapy skills including blood product administration, central line maintenance, phlebotomy, and infusion pump management
