Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Emergency Room position requiring a minimum of 3 years of ER experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital Emergency Room setting with 13 beds and 1 trauma bay
• This facility is the only hospital within a 2-hour drive, treating a wide range of emergencies including critical patients who are stabilized and transferred; pediatric patients make up approximately 25% of the patient volume
• Approximately 35 patients treated per day
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, varying with acuity; team nursing model where all staff assist one another rather than maintaining individual patient assignments
• Night shift is staffed with 2 RNs and 1 tech
• Common IV drips include cardiac drips, dopamine, levophed, nitroglycerin, propofol, and insulin
• EMR: Epic
• 12-hour shifts, 3 days per week, 10:45am–11:15pm (day/evening)
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to other areas as an extra helping hand may be required
• No on-call or standby requirement
• RNs are responsible for primary lab draws; phlebotomy is available as backup
• RNs perform their own EKGs; Respiratory Therapy is available 24/7 to manage vents and ABGs
• A physician is on staff 24/7; a midlevel provider is available from 9am–9pm
• No charge nurse on site; a House Coordinator is available Mon–Fri on day shift; on overnight shifts, the most experienced RN serves as a resource nurse with a full patient assignment
• 1 dedicated psych-safe room available; holds are managed within the ER by ER RNs
• In-house security is available 24/7 and is stationed in the ER waiting room
• Self-scheduling; weekends are pre-assigned; every-weekend block scheduling is available if preferred
• Holiday rotation with core staff
• Unit orientation is 2–3 days
• No scrub color requirements; clean and professional attire required
• Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
• Travelers who have previously worked at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a 2-year break before returning; cumulative travel time within the WVU system cannot exceed one year before requiring a 2-year break

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), PALS (AHA), and TNCC
• Minimum 3 years of emergency room experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience required
• Proficiency with cardiac rhythm interpretation required, as there are no monitor techs — RNs read and interpret their own strips
• Experience with critical drips and hemodynamic management
• BSN not required
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Current certifications copies required for consideration
• Skills checklist completed within the past year required for consideration
• 2 references required for consideration: 1 supervisor reference and 1 peer or additional supervisor reference (e.g., Charge RN)
