Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position requiring telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation skills, with night shift availability and a valid NC or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Inpatient Medical-Surgical unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes those with dementia, diabetes, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, and other typical M/S diagnoses
- Unit includes an isolation area for COVID patients and multi-level care with stepdown capabilities (managed by dedicated stepdown staff)
- Remote telemetry monitoring is used on the unit
- Target patient ratio of 1:5-6
- 12-hour night shifts (18:45–07:15); 36 or 48 hours per week accepted
- Weekends required: 12–16 shifts per 13-week contract
- Floating to other units is required
- Scheduling is based on unit needs
- EMR: Epic (preferred experience); medication dispensing via Pyxis; communication via SBAR
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local candidates are accepted
- 13-week minimum contract length; longer contracts are available for interested candidates
- Orientation consists of 24 hours of unit orientation plus a hospital orientation during week one — candidate must be available for classes each day of orientation week
- Preferred skills include MS/Tele experience, on-unit telemetry monitoring, port access, CVA, surgical drains, ABG interpretation, tracheostomy management, and Epic proficiency
- Contract staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
- Mid-contract consolidation to a centralized office may occur, with potential pre-assignment to units as needed
- RTO is not permitted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; any call-offs or additional RTO may result in contract cancellation
- Maximum of 7 days RTO allowed for the duration of the contract
- Required scrub colors: navy and/or white
Requirements
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- BLS certification required
- Required skills: Med/Surg, remote telemetry monitoring, use of Rapid Response Team, interpretation of dysrhythmias, IV insulin protocols, colostomy care, feeding tube care and management, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, PICC line management, IV starts, heparin, PCA, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleuravac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen, isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
- Must pass an EKG test prior to start
- 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration
