Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring telemetry experience, Epic proficiency, and a GA or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a hospital setting serving adult and geriatric patients
  • Common diagnoses include CHF, MI/chest pain (pre- and post-cath), dysrhythmias (pre- and post-device implants), hypo-/hypertension, pleural effusion, sepsis, and PE/DVT/vascular issues
  • Patient ratio of 1:4–5 across a 36-bed unit with an average daily census of 35
  • EMR: Epic (required); additional systems include Pyxis and SBAR communication protocol
  • Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:00)
  • Every other weekend required
  • Floating within the facility and scope of practice as needed
  • No on-call requirements
  • 16-week contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates are accepted
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • RTO maximum of 7 days; RTO may not be requested during the first week of assignment
  • RTO blackout dates apply during Spring Break (April 4–12)
  • Holiday coverage policy: if one or two major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers are expected to work all of them; if three major holidays fall within the assignment period, travelers must be available for two (one holiday RTO request may be submitted for review) — major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve/New Year's Day
  • No schedule change requests, alternate shifts, or special scheduling accommodations are permitted — the posted shift is firm
  • Candidates must have been away from all facilities within this health system for at least one full year before returning as a traveler

Requirements

  • Active GA or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Minimum 1 year of PCU/telemetry nursing experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Two supervisory references (manager level or above; charge nurses not accepted) are highly preferred
