Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a fast-paced Med/Surg Tele unit with a strong focus on orthopedic and spine patients, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Acute care hospital Med/Surg Tele unit setting
• Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, general med/surg, and post-surgical cases
• Unit has 39 beds with an average daily census of 37
• Patient ratios are typically 5-6:1, with the possibility of flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
• Fast-paced unit requiring strong pain management skills, particularly for orthopedic and spine patients
• COVID-positive patients are cared for on all units (not cohorted) unless they require ICU-level care
• Charting is done in Epic
• 12-hour day shifts, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
• Block scheduling is available (Fri/Sat/Sun or Sat/Sun/Mon)
• Every other weekend is required; any missed weekend shift must be made up on a weekend
• Floating to other med/surg units within the facility is required based on census needs
• 13-week contract minimum; longer contracts may be available
• Preferred qualifications include ACLS certification, charge nurse experience, and Level I Trauma experience
• Provide telemetry monitoring and pain management for orthopedic and spine patients in a high-acuity med/surg environment
• No holiday RTO will be approved
• RTO requests are not accepted after booking and cannot be arranged on-site; excessive call-offs or RTO may result in contract cancellation
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply if they have Epic experience
• Local candidates are accepted

Requirements

• Active NC or Compact RN license
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience with orthopedic nursing experience required
• Current BLS and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Proficiency with IV insertion and telemetry monitoring required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Must pass an EKG test prior to start
