Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.

Responsibilities

• Mixed ICU setting with 39 beds divided into pods: MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU
• Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases; diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
• Cardiac experience preferred, including CABG/TAVR post-op (24–48 hrs); fresh open heart cases are not assigned to travelers without appropriate experience
• Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
• Charting via Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter); Omnicell medication dispensing
• 12-hour day shifts at 48 hours per week
• Every other weekend rotation (best effort basis)
• No on-call responsibilities
• Floating to adult floors including Med-Surg/Tele (1:4 ratio) is possible but uncommon; occurs only when overstaffed
• Orientation consists of one hospital orientation session, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
• Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, phlebotomy (peripheral draws only), ICU CRNs placing all midlines, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 respiratory therapy, and robust physician coverage (3 intensivists on days, 2 on nights plus an APP on nights)
• Travelers may occasionally be expected to precept nursing students
• Navy scrubs are required
• Free parking is available on-site
• No RTO approved during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August annually)
• Time off requests of up to 7 days may be approved; extensions must cover a full 13-week contract
• First-time travelers are not accepted; a minimum of one prior completed travel assignment is required
• Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
• This facility is known to be traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel assignments

Requirements

• Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) or Compact license required
• Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
• Minimum 1.5–2 years of ICU experience, excluding travel assignments
• Epic EMR experience required
• Proficiency with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics; hemodynamic line management; proning; ventilator management; and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
• DOB and SSN required for consideration
• Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
• Must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
