Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Telemetry position at an acute care hospital in West Virginia, requiring strip reading proficiency and at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • 43-bed Cardiac Telemetry unit (mix of semi-private and private rooms) in an acute care hospital setting
  • Patient population includes post-heart cath, TR bands, CHF, COPD, post-pacer placement, arrhythmias, and patients awaiting CABG consult
  • Average nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5, with the ability to flex up to 1:6
  • PCT support available with a goal ratio of 1:8, flexing up to 1:12–1:18 depending on staffing
  • RNs are required to titrate Heparin (and occasionally Lasix or Bumex); Cardizem and Amiodarone are set-rate only
  • Unit has monitor techs and serves as the central monitor station for the entire North Tower
  • Occasional use of high-flow oxygen; BiPAP and CPAP used for supportive therapy only
  • Charting is performed in Epic (experience preferred)
  • 12-hour day shifts (0700–1930) and night shifts (1900–0730) available; self-scheduling permitted with block scheduling accommodated based on unit needs
  • Every other weekend (EOW) required for travelers; day weekend shifts are Sat/Sun, night weekend shifts are Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon
  • Travelers are worked into the float rotation and may be floated anywhere in the hospital, including ICU (rare) and stepdown, within their skillset
  • On-call or standby is possible during low census but is rare
  • Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training followed by 1 day of floor shadowing with a preceptor
  • The unit is fast-paced with approximately 8–12 discharges and 8–12 admissions per day; RNs are expected to manage their own admissions and discharges, with support available when needed
  • A charge nurse is available 24/7; travelers comfortable with charge duties may be considered for the role
  • A unit clerk is available to support the team
  • Strong teamwork culture — staff regularly assist one another
  • Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets are optional but must be an actual scrub jacket (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
  • Holiday coverage may be required based on unit needs
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Travelers previously employed at any WVU Medicine location must have taken a minimum 2-year break before returning
  • Travelers may not work within the WVU system for more than 1 cumulative year without taking a 2-year break
  • Skills checklist completed within the past year is required for consideration
