Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiac Cath Lab position at a Level 1 Trauma Center in Illinois, requiring ACLS and BLS certifications and an active IL RN license.

Responsibilities

• Acute care setting within a Cardiac Cath Lab unit at a Level 1 Trauma Center
• Cath lab is separate from IR and EP departments and consists of 6 suites/labs
• Patient population includes STEMI, NSTEMI, heart failure, congenital, TAVR, MitraClip, and peripheral cases
• Average of 4–20 cases per day with a 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Regular cases are staffed with a 3-person team (1 RN and 2 RTRs); call teams consist of 4 people
• Day shift, 4x9-hour shifts per week
• On-call requirements include 6–8 call shifts per month (primary and backup combined)
• Weekend call rotates every 6–7 weekends, beginning Friday at 5:30 PM and ending Monday at 6:00 AM
• Additional weekend backup shifts occur approximately once per month and are 24-hour shifts
• Holiday call coverage required (Easter backup call shift)
• Floating is not standard, though nurses with IR experience may occasionally share with that department
• EMR: Epic (required); GE and Philips monitors and McKesson also in use
• Charge nurse serves as resource and coordinator; on-call nurses act in the charge role during their shift
• Orientation consists of 2–3 shifts (12 hours total)
• Scrubs are provided by the facility
• Cardiologists are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
• Local candidates are welcome to apply; candidates with a permanent address within 50 miles of the facility may be eligible for a local pay rate
• No COVID vaccine requirement

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required; must be active at time of consideration (pending licenses not accepted)
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA) required; must be active at time of consideration
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Cardiac Cath Lab experience required
• Ability to read cardiac strips required
• Experience titrating drips required
• Epic EMR experience preferred
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and rehire eligibility
• Must provide the last 4 digits of SSN and middle initial for consideration
• Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels (drug-free campus policy)
