  • 10-bed ED with 2 trauma bays, treating patients across the lifespan from newborn to geriatric

  • Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, varying based on acuity
  • Separate triage room in use; competent triage skills are required
  • One locked seclusion room available for psychiatric patients
  • No in-house security; de-escalation skills and coordination with local law enforcement are expected
  • Averages 25–30 patients per day
  • Common drips include norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, and propofol
  • RNs are responsible for reading their own cardiac monitor strips (Philips monitors)
  • RNs must be able to initiate ventilator, BiPAP, or CPAP with verbal assistance from on-call RT if needed
  • RN accompaniment required for all stroke activations to CT
  • 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7a–7p / 7p–7a)
  • Scheduled shifts are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with every other weekend requirement
  • Schedule is released in 6-week blocks; day-to-night turnarounds are not scheduled
  • Holiday coverage required every other holiday
  • No on-call or standby requirements

  • Charting via Epic
  • CNA/Tech support available from 1400–2230 (VS, transport prep, room turnover, stocking, EKGs, swabs, splinting)
  • RT available during day hours and on-call overnight for ABGs, EKGs, respiratory treatments, and vent/BiPAP management
  • No Fast Track area; no separate holding area within the ED
  • One provider (MD, DO, or PA) is staffed in-house 24/7; no charge nurse on shift
  • Orientation is competency-based, not to exceed 4 shifts
  • No specific scrub color requirement; professional appearance expected
  • All requested time off must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after consideration
  • First-time travelers are not explicitly approved for this position given the preference for Critical Access ED experience

Requirements

  • Active MN RN license (State or Compact/NLC) required; pending licenses are not accepted

  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Access Hospital ED experience preferred
  • Competent triage skills required
  • Ability to read cardiac monitor strips independently
