Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Emergency Department position at a Critical Access Hospital in North Dakota, requiring active ND or compact RN licensure and multiple certifications including TNCC.
Responsibilities
- Work setting is an acute care Emergency Department at a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) with ASRH designation and Level 4 trauma certification by the state of North Dakota
- The ED has 14 regular beds and 2 large trauma bays
- Patient population spans pediatrics through geriatrics with all typical Emergency Department presentations
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3-5 depending on assignment
- RNs are required to independently read and interpret telemetry/cardiac monitor strips
- Each shift has a charge nurse; the charge nurse does take an assignment
- One CNA is present per shift, functioning as both ward clerk and CNA
- Charting is done in MEDITECH
- Shifts are 12 hours with varying start times (7a, 10a, and 7p); schedule includes weekends and holidays as needed
- Floating is not typical, but travelers may occasionally be asked to assist on the Med/Surg and ICU units
- 13-week contract with 36 hours per week
- This is a non-clinical involvement position — no direct clinical duties beyond standard RN scope are assigned outside the ED
- Orientation consists of 3 x 12-hour shifts of department-specific training
- Scheduling for travelers is typically managed by the unit manager; self-scheduling is available to staff
- RTO requests of 7 days or fewer per 13-week contract must be submitted upfront; additional RTO will not be approved
- Candidates who are currently or have recently been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facility are not eligible (candidates placed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered)
- Fit testing is required; candidates with facial hair must pass the primary or secondary fit test (3M Aura 1860 or 3M 1870+); failure to pass and inability to remove facial hair may result in contract cancellation
- Attributes that support success in this unit include being a motivated self-starter with a strong commitment to patient satisfaction and clinical excellence
Requirements
- Active ND or Compact (NLC) RN license required; pending licenses are not accepted
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS, and TNCC — all must be active; pending certifications are not accepted
- Ability to independently read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
- A driver's license must be provided for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
- Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
