Job Description
American Traveler is hiring a Pediatric Cardiac Sonographer for an outpatient pediatric specialty clinic and inpatient setting, requiring 2+ years of independent practice experience and pediatric echocardiography experience.
Responsibilities
- Outpatient pediatric specialty clinic and inpatient hospital setting, with the traveler floating between both care areas
- Patient population includes neonates/newborns, pediatric patients, and adults with congenital heart disease, ranging from premature babies to patients in their 60s
- Average daily caseload of 6 outpatient and 2 inpatient scans
- 15 outpatient imaging rooms available, with typically 1 dedicated to Pediatric Cardiology; portable equipment used for inpatient scans
- EMR: Cerner (Clinical Informaticist available for PACS/Cerner and IT support)
- Equipment: Philips ultrasound systems
- 4x9-hour shifts per week; weekday off rotates each week
- Weekend rotation every 3rd weekend, with additional weekends available if desired
- On-call shifts begin after the last clinic patient of the day and run through approximately 7:00 AM, approximately 1–2 nights per week; weekend call runs from Friday morning through Monday morning
- Holiday coverage is call-based only, as the practice is closed 6 days per year
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Candidates must have a permanent address 100+ miles south/southwest of the facility to be eligible; candidates living 100+ miles north may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Candidates who have previously worked at any Northern Light Health Hospital in a permanent capacity are not eligible for this position
- Flu vaccination is required prior to start
- All RTO requests must be submitted at the time of consideration
- Two professional references within the last year are required, with at least one from a Supervisor, Manager, or Director (Charge Nurse references accepted; peer references are not)
- Copies of all certifications and a Driver's License are required for consideration
- Full SSN required for consideration
- Supported by a team including 2 RNs, 5 MAs, a Patient Service Rep, 2 additional sonographers, and 3 cardiologists
- Orientation consists of HR and module-based training on day one, followed by 1–2 weeks of clinical orientation based on experience and comfort level
- Scrubs in any solid, professional color are required; scrubs can be provided if needed
- Free parking is available on site
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of independent practice in cardiac sonography required; 3 years preferred
- Pediatric echocardiography experience is required
- ARDMS Adult (AE) registry required; Pediatric (PE) registry preferred
- Current BLS required
- Experience with neonatal, pediatric, and congenital heart disease patient populations
- Strong patient assessment skills, including the ability to recognize patient fatigue and determine when scanning breaks are needed
- Compact or ME license required if applicable
