Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical/Surgical position at a Level I Trauma Center, requiring a minimum of 2 years of experience and Epic proficiency.
Responsibilities
- Level I Trauma Center, Magnet-designated academic teaching hospital with 1,266 staffed beds
- Medical/Surgical unit serving a high-acuity trauma patient population including geriatric trauma (55+), abuse/violence victims, MVA/MVC, falls, TBI, spinal cord injuries, ortho trauma, and acute care surgery (appendicitis, gallbladder, hernia repairs, fistulas, wounds, burns)
- Patients admitted from ED, OR, or ICU
- Patient ratio of 1:4–5
- Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00–19:30)
- Option to work 36 or 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call requirements
- Floating required within service line or to nearby affiliate hospitals
- Charting system: Epic (experience required)
- Special equipment includes lifts, restraints, wound vacs, traction, and external fixators
- Provides care to a complex, high-acuity trauma and surgical patient population including geriatric trauma, TBI, spinal cord injuries, total joint replacements, and acute care surgery cases
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO during the first week of orientation
- Former permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travelers residing outside the 75-mile radius may work up to 18 months continuously, followed by a required 3-month break
- Fit testing is required; candidates with facial hair must be able to achieve a proper mask seal or will be expected to shave — no exceptions
- Medical marijuana cardholders are not eligible for this position
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
Requirements
- Active MO RN license or compact RN license (from state of permanent residence) required
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Epic EMR experience required
- Required certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS
- BSN and TNCC preferred
- Must pass a Relias EKG exam; EKG interpretation and dysrhythmia management required
- Required clinical skills include: blood product administration, peripheral line care/management, phlebotomy, IV insertion, insulin administration, PCA management, wound care/wound vac, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC, oral suctioning, oxygen therapy, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, total joint replacement care, isolation precautions, spinal cord injury and TBI care, ortho trauma, and ortho trauma care
- Valid SSN and date of birth required for consideration
- Candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
