Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cath Lab/EP position at a large academic teaching hospital, requiring a minimum of 2 years of Cath Lab experience including interventional scrub and EP experience.

Responsibilities

  • Work setting is a large (1,266-bed) short-term acute care academic teaching hospital
  • Position is in the Cardiac Cath Lab, covering both diagnostic and interventional PCI and EP lab environments
  • Patient population includes AMI, chest pain, heart failure, NSTEMI, aortic stenosis, V-tach, endocarditis, AFib, peripheral vascular disease, and sick sinus syndrome
  • Patient ratio is 1:1
  • Schedule is 4x10-hour day shifts (7:00–17:30) with rotating on-call, which includes evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Every other weekend is required
  • Floating within the Cath Lab service line is required
  • On-call is required; current need includes rotating call covering evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, subject to change based on unit needs
  • Epic is the charting system; experience is required
  • Specialized equipment includes Impella and IABP
  • Block scheduling is not available
  • Navy scrubs are required
  • RN will function as a circulator in the diagnostic and interventional PCI environment, providing conscious sedation under attending direction, handing off sterile supplies, assessing vitals, and documenting in Epic
  • Cross-training to run hemodynamics in the monitor tech role is likely
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible — no local candidates accepted
  • Travelers may remain at BJC facilities for up to 18 months, after which a 3-month break is required before returning
  • Permanent employees of any BJC facility must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • RTO is limited to no more than 7 days per 13-week contract; no RTO is permitted during the first week of the assignment
  • Pre-start orientation modules are required for all RNs and must be completed prior to the start date
  • Fit testing is required; candidates must have facial hair that allows for proper mask fit testing or must be willing to shave — no exceptions
  • Medical marijuana card holders will not be accepted per facility policy

Requirements

  • Active MO RN license or compact RN license from candidate's state of permanent residence is required
  • Current certifications required: ACLS and BLS
  • Minimum 2 years of Cath Lab experience required
  • Cath Lab/STEMI scrub experience is required — candidates without this experience will not be considered
  • Minimum 1 year of EP (Electrophysiology) lab experience required
  • Interventional scrub experience required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Preferred skills include: ASD closures, cardiac implant closure device, TAVR, TEE, valvuloplasty, and Watchman procedure
  • Required procedural skills include: cardiac stent placement, diagnostic and interventional catheterizations (adult), IABP placement/removal, Impella insertion, left and right heart catheterization, PCI, rotablator atherectomy, and vascular procedures including angioplasty
  • Ability to circulate procedures and interpret/manage dysrhythmias required
  • Valid SSN and date of birth are required for consideration
  • Two professional supervisory references from within the past 2 years are required
