Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position in Surgical Services, requiring at least 2 years of OR experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center and proficiency with robotic surgery systems.

Responsibilities

  • Work setting is a large hospital Surgical Services department with 12 ORs, 20 Pre-Op bays, and 14 PACU bays
  • Surgical specialties include Urology, Neuro, Ortho, Robotics (Da Vinci XI), General, Podiatry, and ENT
  • Pre-Op and PACU coverage includes Phase I and Phase II recovery, with some ICU-level care required in the PACU
  • Patient ratios: OR 1:1, Pre-Op 1:2, PACU Phase I 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity, PACU Phase II 1:2-3
  • 12-hour night shifts, Thursday through Saturday
  • On-call expectations include ideally one overnight per week (7p–7a) and every 3rd weekend (Friday 1500–Monday 0700); subject to change based on department needs
  • On-call response time is 15 minutes; sleep accommodations available on-unit during call
  • Floating may occur to Pre-Op, PACU, or floor as needed; if floated outside peri-op services, role is as helping hands
  • EMR is Epic; Omnicell and Alaris are also used on the unit
  • Surgical team support includes RN, First Assist, Surgical Tech, Nurse Clinician, CRN, Service Line Leads, HUC, Scheduler, Preference Card Analyst, OR Techs, and Anesthesia; Pre-Op/PACU team includes RN, Nurse Aides, Nurse Clinician, and CRNs
  • Orientation is 1 week and covers all specialties
  • Holiday coverage required for 2 out of 4 major holidays
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility; free parking is available
  • Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • First-time travelers are not automatically accepted — email for approval on a case-by-case basis
  • Former permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler

Requirements

  • Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) license or a Compact RN license accepted
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of OR experience in a Level 1 or 2 trauma center required
  • Experience with Ortho-Trauma procedures (ORIF, Ex-Fix, Amputations), Neuro (Craniotomy, Spinal), General, and Robotic surgery (Da Vinci XI)
  • Surgical experience in a tertiary care center required
  • Pre-Op and PACU experience including ICU-level skillset required
  • Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
  • DOB and SSN required for consideration
