Job Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring telemetry and neuro experience with night shift availability.

Responsibilities

• Works in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at a Level 1 Trauma academic teaching hospital
• Patient population includes CVAs, hydrocephalus, brain tumors and resections, seizures, TBIs, trauma (GSW, stabbings, MVCs), GI surgeries, and complex wound care
• Patient ratio is 1:3-4, with ratio of 1:5 only during emergencies
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30
• Must be flexible with weekend requirements; travelers are expected to work 50% of weekends during their contract
• Floating is required and may include different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) within the hospital or to an affiliate hospital
• Cerner EMR — experience required
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on operational needs
• As a teaching facility, travelers must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them during their assignment
• Travelers may be assigned charge nurse duties with training and resources provided as needed
• If a contracted shift is called out, the shift must be made up within the pay period or will be added to the end of the contract
• Up to 5 days of RTO may be auto-approved
• Travelers must be available to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Former permanent or PRN employees of this health system must have been separated for at least 12 months before being considered as a traveler
• Local candidates are not accepted for this position

Requirements

• Active IN or Compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications required: BLS (AHA or RQI accepted), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum 18 months to 2 years of RN experience required
• Telemetry experience required
• Proficient neuro experience required
• Experience managing drips required
• Conscious sedation experience preferred
• Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
• Cerner charting experience required
• Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited university required
• IN RN license holders are not eligible for this position (compact license from another state is acceptable)
