Job Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Subintensive Medical/Telemetry Unit (MS/Tele) position in Northport, AL, requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

• Acute care multi-specialty unit (MSU) functioning primarily as a Med/Surg Telemetry unit
• Patient population includes medical patients requiring dialysis and telemetry monitoring, as well as surgical patients undergoing orthopedic procedures (fractures, shoulders, backs) and general surgery (appendectomy, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, colon resection)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6, supported by a Team Leader who is out of staffing
• Unit accommodates up to 36 patients and is the only 24/7 acute care unit on the NMC campus
• Day shift, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
• 36 hours per week
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required
• Must be willing to float to other units and hospitals
• EMR: Meditech (experience preferred but not required)
• Strong team culture with a dedicated nursing and ancillary staff focused on patient-centered care
• Clinical emphasis on pain management, mobility, and prevention of complications
• A cardiac exam will be administered after offer acceptance
• No HealthStream modules required prior to start — competency-based modules are completed during virtual orientation
• Solid navy scrubs required
• Local candidates are accepted with no radius restrictions
• Timekeeping system: Centricity

Requirements

• Active AL state or compact RN license required — no pending or temporary licenses accepted
• No hits (past or current) on license record allowed
• BLS certification required (AHA or Red Cross)
• Associate degree in nursing (ADN) or higher required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience; candidates with 18 months may be considered if working under their highest professional license
• At least 1 year of recent experience in MS/Tele or related specialty required
• Current driver's license required for consideration
• Two professional references from within the last year required for consideration
• NURSYS license verification required
